Welcome: The group was welcomed by Brittany Sullivan. She commented on how great the turnout was at this meeting.
Principal’s Report: Dr. Etlen started by thanking last year’s 6th grade committee for their generous donation of a bottle filling station and televisions for the cafeteria. These tvs will be used to display photos and announcements much like the tv at the front entryway of the school. He read a letter from the Highland staff thanking the PTO for this year’s classroom donations.
Upcoming events: Halloween, Wednesday 10/31. The parade will be held at 9:15am and classroom parties will begin at 2:30pm. Non-Violent Conflict Resolution week, week of 11/5. American Education Week, week of 11/12. You DO NOT need your clearances to attend American Education Week.
Treasurer’s Report: The teacher’s gifts were the largest September expense. The McClure fund scholarship was also given to a Highland Alumni who is pursuing a career in education. We had some income from PTO membership fees, assignment books and the apparel table at the picnic. See attached files for more detailed information.
Picture Day: Picture Day went well! Jen Schultz mentioned that next year they would like to try to do all photos in the morning but we would need full use of the gym in order to accommodate more photographers. Retakes will be held on Friday 11/16.
Kindergarten Breakfast: Thank you Kristin Adams and Sarah Diehl for a wonderful job on the breakfast! Everyone had a lot of fun!
Teacher Thank You Notes: The thank you notes we received from the teachers were passed around for attendees to read. Also- a special thank you to Susan Hayes from the recess aides!
Website: Jen Evangelist is working on updating the PTO website and would like to include more photos and info about upcoming events. Adding a blurb about the website in the Husky Happening was also discussed.
Barnes and Noble Night: Will be held Friday 11/16 from 4:30-7:30pm. This year’s theme is Sports and Games and there will be a special guest arriving at 5:30—The Philly Phanatic! There will be cupcake decorating, teacher’s reading, a chorus performance at 6:30, and artwork displayed. 15% of purchases go back to our library. Wear your sports and games gear!
Share and Care: The Share and Care food drive begins on 11/5 and will run through 11/19. Giant is bringing back their free turkey coupons this year! If you won’t be using yours, please consider donating it to the food drive. Please send in your canned good and non-perishable items, cash or gift cards in with your child during this time to help support Highland families this holiday season.
Musical Theatre Club: Van Hellerslia mentioned she has a friend who puts on voice and theatre productions who is interested in working with Highland. It was discussed and there was a good amount of interest if it can be made affordable for all students.
Assemblies: Taryn Kindred presented a few assembly ideas that she is hoping to get on the calendar. This included assemblies that will coincide with Multicultural Week, Science Week and Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Zumba starts 10/24.
Family Fun Night will be held on 10/19.
The Holiday Shop will run Dec 12-14.
