Highland Elementary PTO Meeting Minutes

October 19, 2020

Welcome: Gwen Rinaldi and Crissy Field welcomed attendees to the meeting.

Principal’s Remarks: Dr. Etlen thanked parents for once again being a supportive and positive community for the teachers and administration. There will be an email going out on the 26th about scheduling teacher conferences, which will take place the week of Thanksgiving. Report cards will not be available at the conferences, they will be posted to Skyward December 14.

Treasurer’s Report: Teacher gifts cost the PTO about $2,500. Received our final check from Giant for $2,400. Received about $800 in iRun4Life parent donations. Have only gathered $340 in dues this year.

Agenda Items

Riviera D’Italia fundraiser this Wednesday, Oct. 21. 4-8pm, flyer has been sent out on Skyward and promoted on FB.

Share and Care: Will be collecting Nov. 2-Nov. 19. Will have various places to drop off, including along the bus loop on Nov. 19. Encouraging mostly Venmo/Gift Card donations, but will accept non-perishable food donations. No 6th grade involvement this year. Dr. Etlen is ok with Venmo usage as long as clear records are kept and dates for donations are clearly communicated. Email christinamariemccauley@gmail.com if you would like to host a drop-off box at your house. A flyer will be created and sent out via skyward with donation opportunity information.

Mask/Apparel Fundraisers: 241 masks were ordered, a very successful sale. Masks should be delivered to Alicia Wolfe in a couple weeks. The apparel store will be launching soon, will run Oct. 22-Nov. 19.

Family Fun Night: Linda Hopkins has organized 3 zoom rooms for this Friday Oct 23. Mrs. Skinner is running the dance room, Colleen Aubel will run a story/drawing room, and Linda will host a scavenger hunt/minute to win it room. 6:30-8 pm, Dr. Etlen will send out the flier via email once submitted and approved.

Virtual Craft Market: Beth Iula setting up the online shop, will have a link people can shop from and she will take delivery of a bulk shipment/arrange for pickups. Natalie Black received positive feedback online for virtual craft market, will work on details.

Drop Box for Teachers: Denise Novick would like to work with the PTO to have a drop box at the school for a couple of days, for kids to submit letters to teachers. This is approved.

School Supply Grab Bags: Erin Kelly is collecting school supplies (crayons, highlighters, colored pencils, etc) to create grab bags for families in need to pick up in the school office. Will put this information in the next Husky Happenings.

Dr Etlen brought up the scarecrow contest held by McKinley & Roslyn Elementaries and suggested it would be a good alternative for Highland, rather than the Halloween parade, given that some families do not observe the holiday. It was also suggested to make a fundraiser of a Halloween car parade. It was agreed by the PTO that it is too late this year to create a new event, but something to consider for next year.

**Please join us for our next meeting on November 16 at 630pm.
