March PTO Meeting- 3/14/16

Intros:  Erica welcome and sent well wishes to Mr. Etlen who was not in attendance due to illness.  We then went  around and introduced ourselves.  There were 10 total in attendance!  Mrs. Howe spoke in his place.  She announced some reminders about the early dismissals next week and conferences.  She also wanted to remind everyone of the upcoming PSSA testing:

  • 4/12-4/15 ELA
  • 4/19-4/21 Math
  • 4/27-4/28 Science (4th grade only)

Science Day: presenters for every class; kids very engaged; special thank you to all presenters and for outflow of support from parents

Race for Education:

  • Gonna be held on field day (5/13)
  • Packets going out w/ new post-it notes to allow supporters to send special messages with their donation.  Would like to display notes but location TBD
  • Was thinking of making a few small changes such as having a family donation option; upping the donation option intervals; setting up paypal so people can donate electronically
  • Forms going to be ordered soon and then there will be a call for assembly volunteers possibly to meet at Laura’s like last year
  • volunteers needed; fundraising goal $15,000 (contact Laura – laura@kremp.com)

Just want it to be reiterated that the Race for Education and the Spring Fling are the biggest fundraisers for our school!

Zumba:

  • Mikki did a great job and it went really well!
  • spring session coming up (4/18, 5/2, 5/9, 5/16, 5/23)

Assignment books:   Assignment books & folders have been ordered for next year

5th/6th Grade Social: Fri 5/6 6:30-8:30, $10, luau theme with dj, photo booth ($1), soda & snacks available to purchase

Multicultural Fair:

Was discussion on what dessert should be provided

Thurs 5/12 4:30-6:30; need families for diversity fair; working on performers (contact Mariana – mariyouareastar@gmail.com)

Restaurant Fundraiser:  Lee’s Hoagies 4/25; Uswirl & Jules in May

Field Day:

  • 5/13; need volunteers (contact Kristin – kristinlowery@me.com)
  • Schedule as follows-  K @ 9:45-10:45; 1 thru 3 @ 9:20-11:30 and 4 thru 6 @ 12:45-3:00 per Mr. Kotkoskie

Teacher Appreciation: first week of May, hopefully Tues 5/3; need volunteers to help set up and make Mexican themed food (contact Lesley – lesley.jamieson101@gmail.com)

Spring Fling:

  • Prizes are ordered
  • Games are reserved
  • Still gathering quotes for bounce house
  • There will be a DUNK TANK! So need teacher volunteers
  • Sign-up genius going out in Husky
  • Held on 4/30 @ 10a-3p
  • Want to encourage every family to volunteer @least 1 hr.
  • Class with most volunteers get ice cream party
  • CPR class on gym stage – will not result in certifications!

After School Activities:

  • have had a couple parents respond with interest, still looking for more. Maybe someone for a book club or lego club? (contact Gwen – gwenrinaldi@gmail.com)
  • Want more activities but still working out the kinks of cost and volunteers
  • Want to have more options for the younger kids like Zumba
  • Chess club is being organized by Mr. Chou
  • Suggested that we ask the teachers of the kids in the younger grades what types of things their students are interested in for possible ideas of what to offer
  • Suggestions that have come up included: painting, running and flag football
  • Mariana brought up the benefits of a 2nd language being offered at the elementary level and not just in the middle and high school.  She noted the benefits of development.  Offered to offer a speaker to attend a future meeting on the topic.  Then stated that maybe a Spanish club would be an after school option which could potentially launch other language club options!
