PHS Junior Flower Show Returns to Highland

The Junior Flower Show is coming to Highland again! Entries must be on Highland lobby tables on Wednesday, January 21. Judges from the Philadelphia Horticultural Society will be here on Friday, January 23. Live growing plants (Horticulture Class entries) must be in the care of the student at least a month in advance. Optional afterschool workshops for the artistic classes will take place in January—please see the flyer in this week’s packet. Highland’s Best of Show will be on display at the Philadel-phia Flower Show and will be awarded two tickets to Philadelphia Flower Show. Ribbons will be awarded to all. For more in-formation, including the official rules and additional details, visit http://phsonline.org/learning/junior-flower-show. Please contact Ms. Lee-Kim or Ms. Forrest to register.

Big Highland Alumni News

Congratulations to Ashton Carter—Highland Elementary Class of 1966, Abington Senior High (and Honor Society President) Class of 1972, 1989 ASD Hall of Fame inductee—on being nominated by President Obama to be the next United States Secretary of Defense!

Bottle Cap Update

Courtesy of Ms. Lee-Kim: We are still collecting bottle caps for a recycled materials mosaic. We are now limiting the bottle, jug, and jar caps to plastic only, especially in black, white, and other solid colors. We do not need any more translucent water bottle caps. It would be appreciated if they were pre-washed. (The utensil basket in the dishwasher works well.) Please send them to the art room. Thank you!

Husky S.T.A.R.S.

Courtesy of Mrs. Crouthamel and Mrs. Tuffy: The Husky S.T.A.R.S. winners for November are K/Arnold, 1/Campana, 2/Rush, 3/Randall-Tookes, 4/Tuffy, 5/Crouthamel, and 6/Heuer. Congratulations to the November winners!

Blood Drive: Thank You!

Thank you so much to everyone who donated at last week’s Highland Blood Drive. Thanks to everyone from the Highland community and our neighbors from throughout Abington Township and the surrounding area, we were able to beat our donation goal. Thank you again for giving the gift of life!

Happy Husky Holidays!

Your Highland PTO, Husky Happenings staff, and Thursday packets volunteers wish everyone in the Highland community a safe and happy holiday season and all the best for a wonderful 2015!
