Highland Elementary PTO Meeting Minutes

October 14, 2019

Welcome: Crissy Field welcomed attendees to the meeting.

Principal’s Remarks: Dr. Etlen thanked the PTO for the Special Persons Breakfast. It went well though attendance was low due to being on a Thursday after a day off. The Dr Recess assembly was very popular and featured on the news. The Penn State STEM program is beginning the 3rd year and we are so appreciative of the partnership. He will be serving lunch one day this week to mark National School Lunch week.

Treasurer’s Report: In September we paid an assembly deposit, teacher gifts, and permit fees from last year, which were higher than normal due to holding evening events adjoining holiday weekends. We had income from Spirit Apparel, assignment books, etc. The John Englehart Scholarship Fund was recently founded and various groups will be funding, the PTO may consider donating.

Review of Recent Events:

Picture Day: Was solely run in the morning for the first time, went well. The rep took our requests and suggestions under consideration (mainly having a digital only option for orders and the 6th grade photo quality). The PTO discussed the pros and cons of pre-labeling the envelopes.

PTO Directory: The named chair was unable to take on the project so Crissy Field has been the primary organizer, it is nearly complete.

Other Business:

Open PTO positions for the 2020-2021 School Year:Co-President, Treasurer, Field Day Chair (filled at meeting by Natalie Black), Special Persons Dance committee, Share and Care Co-chair (filled at meeting by Lisa Kolar), Box Tops Chair.

Family Fun Night is this Friday, October 18 at 6pm, Pingo will be the entertainment.

Halloween Parties- most of the sign-up geniuses are posted.

Share and Care- Begins November 4th. Last year the turkeys were all donated from one source, we are contacting that source to find out whether they intend to repeat the donation. We are still accepting Giant turkeys coupons as we provided last years to the Interfaith Food Pantry, so they won’t go to waste. We will accept cash and gift card donations in addition to the requested food items.

Winter craft- Natalie Black is working on a flyer, it will run the Tuesday and Wednesday of the December conferences. She will also create a sign-up genius to collect craft supplies. There will be a $4 to $5 fee to enter the art room where there will be 6 or 7 stations for students to make crafts/presents.

**Please join us for our next meeting on November 18th at 6:30pm in the library.
